In our experience, planning has the most impact on the grooming process if started between one and three years from the proposed transaction date. This allows time to influence key factors impacting value and reduces the chances of other priorities diverting your attention from it.

You may also wish to consider converting some of the wealth you have built up in your business into capital by selling all or part of it before April 2010 whilst the capital gains tax rate is still 18%. Even a simple restructuring of your business operations could have potential tax savings.

It is possible or even likely that CGT rates will have to rise in the future.
